No one is going to give me happiness

I have to go get it on my own.

Oh to remember this every moment of the day, especially a bad day.

happiness seems to be directly tied to expectations. lower expectations = higher happiness. supposedly that’s why the folks in Denmark rank highest on the happiness scale of happiest countries. they don’t expect a whole lot, but do pretty well so they are very happy.

I probably could do with lowering my expectations a bit, but I have no idea what that would be like.

The argument has also been made that an excess of choices can actually make us less happy. Check out this interesting video.

That is interesting. It brings up an idea of a round table discussion that I’ve wanted to host for awhile: the implosion of semantics. For example, there is happiness like a feeling and a euphoria, like a hormonal drug injection. There is also, which I now see was a mistake I made in my article, happiness as fulfillment. There are times that I’ve been extremely fulfilled and have thus had “happy” moments, but the time doesn’t “feel” like normal everyday happiness -> the bushwhacking hike out from last years man trip, for example. Maybe we should hold our own TED talks?

we can shoot our own little TED talks in the woods this summer. seriously, it would be interesting to try and get philosophical on camera in the wildernes… :)

That’s a great idea! By the way, do you have a date yet for the MAN TRIP! Who knows, maybe there is a real MAN reading this blog who will be inspired to join us.
