The Results of NaNoWriMo 2007

Now available for download, in unlimited-edition format, new but not improved, Don’t point that sword at me unless you intend to use it. See the results of writing a story, over a period of 23 days, with no greater goal than reaching that 50k word count.

Checklist of accomplishments

  • Plot holes - YES
  • Misspellings - AMEN BRUTHA!
  • Massive Grammar problems and big run ons and abuse of punctuation - YOU BET YOUR HOUSE AND YOUR SPOUSE
  • Blatant disregard for the reader - someone is actually going to read this?
  • “Won” NaNoWriMo 2007 - HELL YES

Really, I don’t recommend that anyone read this, unless:

  • You like to use alpha versions of software. Consider this the written equivalent of an early program release that could crash your computer, force you to use Windows Vista, modem into the WOPR, and make you play a game of chess.
  • You are someone who always wanted to write, but you need to be able to find someone about whom you could say, “GOOD LORD EVEN I WRITE BETTER THAN THAT!”

I post this because many people tell me they want to write but they don’t for some reason or other. A good majority of the reasons I hear are what I call not being able to get over the “Oh My God I’m Not Producing a Pulitzer on my First Draft.” It’s like that silly stage in a serious relationship where you have to make that decision, “Oh my god, I have to fart and we’re trapped in the car together!”

Well duh, everyone farts, and we do lots of other stuff as all those new age kids books have taught me. Some of us get over ourselves, rip one off, and relish the potential consequences of not rolling down the window. And there are others of us, well, we know who we are. “Honey, pull over. I know we’re in a dessert, but it’s time to see other people and I’ll walk home.”

My rambling point: if this triple strength piece of yak shit inspires just one person to get over their embarrassment and express themselves by writing something, anything, then my job here is done.

Thank you, and good night.

I enjoy your sense of humor, about yourself no less. BUT, of course, the whole point of it all is to get the 50,000 words down. Not many of us do that. Now wear your winner’s badge with pride!

  4. Thank you guys.

    Todd,

No matter how much the content might need work, I actually enjoyed the story that evolved. There will be a beta version sometime in the undetermined future. It will not get lost, or deleted, from my incubation archive.
